Back in October we received a request from Noss Mayo Church Heritage Trust to survey St.Peter’s Church, Revelstoke, as the Bell Tower was undergoing an extensive programme of renovation and repair.
The bells had been painstakingly removed and sent to a foundry for repair, with the spaced opened up it was clear that the timbers were suffering from some wood boring beetle infestation. Through a thorough inspection the species were confirmed and a specification set out for treatment.
It was imperative that the vast timbers from which the bells are hung and structural elements were not changed in any way, as this could have a negative impact on the acoustics. A plan to both treat the infestation and apply preservation treatments was put together.
Access to the tower was restricted as the church is popular and has a busy schedule of services and events throughout the week. The treatment was carried out on Saturdays to limit disruption.
The products used offer a 30 year guarantee and piece of mind for the charitable trust who have worked incredibly hard to raise funds for substantial work throughout the church, historic monuments and grounds.
